I believe this was the problem because there is also a loud clunk when i let off the accelerator and then step back on it. If bad u joints were the cause for this problem I want to change them out first. So a couple questions: How hard of a job is it to replace this adapter housing? Does the tranny need to be pulled out or can you just drop the drive shaft and tansfer case then remove and replace the adapter piece? I heard some on this site say that if this is done then some bearing will be out of place if the tranny is not dropped first. I just read on this site that an off balanced drive shaft or bad u joints can cause this to crack. When I took a look under my truck I noticed the rear adapter housing (part between allison and transfer case) was cracked. A couple of weeks ago I noticed a vibration at about 65 to 70 mph and now I noticed tranny fluid leaking.
