The acute variables include: 1) Exercises used, 2) Exercise order, 3) Weight used/intensity (reps completed), 4) Sets performed, 5) Rest periods taken between sets, and 6) Rep speed/tempo used. Periodization is a term that refers to the systematic manipulation of the acute training variables over a long-term period that may range from days to years.
